BS EN 61400-25-5 is part of the BS EN 61400-25 series of standards series for vendors (manufacturers, suppliers), operators, owners, planners, and designers of wind power plants as well as system integrators and utility companies operating in the wind energy market. BS EN 61400-25 is intended to be accepted and used world-wide as the international standard for communications in the domain of wind power plants.

The focus of the BS EN 61400-25 series is on the communications between wind power plant components such as wind turbines and actors such as SCADA Systems.

The BS EN 61400-25 series is designed for a communication environment supported by a clientserver model. Three areas are defined, that are modelled separately to ensure the scalability of implementations:

• Wind power plant information models

• Information exchange model

• Mapping of these two models to a standard communication profile.

This part of BS EN 61400-25 specifies standard techniques for testing of conformance of implementations, as well as specific measurement techniques to be applied when declaring performance parameters. The use of these techniques will enhance the ability of users to purchase systems that integrate easily, operate correctly, and support the applications as intended.

Internal communication within wind power plant components is outside the scope of the BS EN 61400-25 series.
