What is BS EN ISO 2560:2020 about?
This international standard details how certain covered electrodes used in manual arc welding should be classified. BS EN ISO 2560:2020 is an update of the 2009 version.
Who is BS EN ISO 2560:2020 for?
- Organizations dealing with metal treatment and welding, generally in the oil and gas, automotive, aerospace, manufacturing and nuclear industries
- Welders specializing in gas metal-arc welding
- Managers and contractors responsible for wire, consumable and welding electrodes
Why should you use BS EN ISO 2560:2020?
It specifies requirements for classifying covered electrodes and deposited metal in the as-welded condition and in the post-weld heat-treated condition for manual metal arc welding of non-alloy and fine grain steels with a minimum yield strength of up to 500 MPa or a minimum tensile strength of up to 570 MPa.
BS EN ISO 2560:2020 is a combined specification, so classification can be done using a system based on the yield strength and the average impact energy of 47 J of all-weld metal, or using a system based on the tensile strength and the average impact energy of 27 J of all-weld metal.
- Clauses, subclauses and tables that carry the suffix letter “A” apply only to covered electrodes classified to the system based on the yield strength and the average impact energy of 47 J of all weld metal
- Clauses, subclauses and tables that carry the suffix letter “B” apply only to covered electrodes classified to the system based on the tensile strength and the average impact energy of 27 J of all weld metal
- Clauses, subclauses and tables that do not have either the suffix letter “A” or the suffix letter “B” apply to all covered electrodes classified in the document
What’s new about BS EN ISO 2560:2020?
This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third, 2009 edition. BS EN ISO 2560:2020 includes updated tables, references and clauses throughout. In particular, the wording in clause 8 on the rounding procedure has been updated.
