What is BS EN 10217‑4 about?
BS EN 10217 is a series of European standards on welded steel tubes that discusses the best procedures and specifications required for manufacturing high-quality electric non-alloy steel tubes. BS EN 10217‑4 is the fourth part of a series of documents on welded steel tubes. BS EN 10217‑4 specifies the technical delivery conditions for two test categories of electric welded tubes of circular cross-section, with specified low-temperature properties, made from non-alloy quality steel.
NOTE 1: These tube grades are intended to support the essential requirements of EU Directive 2014/68/EU in respect of pressure equipment with specified low-temperature properties covered under all relevant categories as set out in Article 13 of that Directive.
NOTE 2: Once this standard is published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), the presumption of conformity to the Essential Safety Requirements (ESR) of Directive 2014/68/EU is limited to the technical data for the materials in this standard and does not presume adequacy of the material for a specific item of pressure equipment. Consequently, the assessment of the technical data stated in this material standard against the design requirements of this specific item of equipment to verify that the ESRs of the Pressure Equipment Directive is satisfied needs to be done by the designer or manufacturer of the pressure equipment, taking also into account
the subsequent manufacturing processes which may affect properties of the base materials.
Who is BS EN 10217‑4 for?
BS EN 10217‑4 on welded steel tubes for pressure purposes is relevant to:
- Manufacturer of electric welded non-alloy steel tubes
- Mechanical engineer
- Manufacturer of pressure appliances
Why should you use BS EN 10217‑4?
A welded stainless steel tube is produced through roll forming strips or sheets of stainless steel into a tube shape and then welding the seam longitudinally. The welded tube can also be drawn similar to seamless tubing to produce a finer weld seam with better surface finishes and tighter tolerances.
BS EN 10217‑4 provides guidance on the manufacturing process, chemical composition, mechanical properties, non-destructive testing, weld seam, surface properties, dimensions, tolerances, masses. BS EN 10217‑4 specify tests to be carried out for non-destructive testing (NDT) which helps you in inspecting, testing, or evaluating materials, components for discontinuities, or differences in characteristics without destroying the serviceability of the part. BS EN 10217‑4 exemplifies the required mechanical property and chemical property that helps you achieve precision in terms of product functionality.
As a user of BS EN 10217‑4, you can be ensured of all the properties of welded steel tubes. With obedience and compliance to BS EN 10217‑4, you can efficiently manufacture high-quality electric welded non-alloy tubes of circular cross-section, with specified low-temperature properties. BS EN 10217‑4 helps you to build consumer trust and confidence in the product. With BS EN 10217‑4 you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets.
