This British Standard, a section of the BS 1449 series, specifies general requirements for flat rolled carbon steel products, available in the hot or cold rolled conditions and in coil or cut length form, rolled as wide strip in nominal widths of 600 mm and wider or as narrow strip in nominal widths less than 600 mm.
This British Standard covers plate, sheet and strip in nominal thicknesses up to and including 16 mm and the material grades, chemical compositions and types of steel.
Requirements are given on the steelmaking process, chemical composition, freedom from defects, condition of material on delivery, number of tests, tensile properties, bending, strain-age-embrittlement, stabilization, formability, hardness, decarburization test, retests, surface finish and surface inspection, edge conditions, tolerances, and inspection and marking.
