Abstract
This British Standard, a part of the BS 5400 series, specifies requirements for the materials, workmanship, handling, transport and erection for the construction of steel bridges. Requirements are also given on inspection and testing, and supply, measurement and weighing. The first annex to the standard provides requirements on steel rivets. A second annex gives guidance on requirements of specific clauses which offer a standard of good practice.

This British Standard supersedes BS 5400-6:1980 which is withdrawn.
