The PAS is for anyone who manufactures or tests flexitanks. It will also benefit:

  • Shippers and cargo owners

  • Haulage companies
  • Forwarders and non-vessel owning freight container operators
  • Shipping lines
  • Rail operators
  • Freight container leasing companies
  • Insurance companies and protection and indemnity (P&I) clubs
  • The general public

Why should you use this PAS?

PAS 1008 specifies requirements for:

  1. The material properties of the flexitank film and, where fitted, the sleeve
  2. The leak tightness of the loading/discharging valve(s)
  3. The flexitank system’s resistance to a rail impact defined as a 2g (gravitational unit) retardation or acceleration force
  4. The provision of flexitank informationIt also describes a method for testing the leak tightness of the loading/discharging valve(s) and a method of determining the flexitank’s suitability for intermodal transport by means of a rail impact test of the flexitank when installed in a GP freight container together with its restraining system.

What’s changed since the last update?

The key changes are to the materials clause (Clause 4) and the flexitank system rail impact test (Annex B).
