This European Standard on the safety of machinery specifies design principles for emergency stop equipment for machinery. No account is taken of the nature of the energy source.
The aim of this standard is to specify the functional requirements the emergency stop equipment has to conform to, to fulfil the essential safety requirements of the Machinery Directive.
Specific requirements are given on the emergency stop function, emergency stop equipment, control devices, and manual control (actuator). Safety requirements given include specific requirements for electrical equipment, operating conditions and environmental influences, shape, colour and arrangement of emergency stop actuators, and additional requirements for ropes when used as actuators.
