Abstract
This European Standard specifies requirements for cords and drawstrings for children's clothing, including disguise costumes and skiwear, up to the age of 14 years. All of the potential hazards that may create an unsafe garment are not covered in this standard. Identifiable specific hazards in certain styles/design of garment may not present a risk for certain age groups.
This standard provides requirements for the hood and neck area on garments for young children and on garments for older children and young persons, the waist area of garments, lower hems of garments which hang below the waist, sleeves, and other parts of the garment.
Background information on national accident statistics involving drawstrings, functional cords and decorative cords on children’s clothing are given in an annex to this standard.
