What is BS EN 62305-3:2011?
This part of EN 62305 sets out all the requirements needed to protect buildings and structures against physical damage by implementing a lightning protection system (LPS). It also looks at how to protect humans and animals (living beings) against injury if they are close to an LPS. By defining these safety measures, this standard helps you to minimise damage, invest in the right electrical protection equipment and maximise hazard prevention in buildings. Surge and climatic protection, earthing and electrical safety in general are also included at no extra cost.
How does it work?
BS EN 62305-3 outlines all aspects of internal and external lightning protection systems, including class, design and the continuity of steelwork in reinforced concrete structures. Air and earth termination, as well as down-conductor systems are also referenced in this standard. The scope includes lightning components in general, and different materials and dimensions. BS EN 62305-3 also focuses on the maintenance and inspection of an LPS.
