Why should you use this standard?
BS 6440:2011 provides guidance and the most up-to-date recommendations for electrically powered lifting platforms that are intended primarily for the transport of persons with impaired mobility, standing or seating, with or without a wheelchair.
The specifications cover structures travelling vertically between two predefined levels along a guided path where the inclination to the vertical does not exceed 15° and supported or sustained by wire ropes, chains, rack and pinion, hydraulic cylinder (direct or indirect), screw and nut or scissors mechanisms.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS 6440:2011 replaces the 1999 edition of this standard. It has been fully revised by experts to bring it up to date with technological developments and industry best practice.
