This is the latest in the ISO 19650 series of international standards on building information modelling (BIM) which are replacing BSI’s UK BIM documents. BS EN ISO 19650-3:2020 covers information management requirements while the built asset is operational.
Who is BS EN ISO 19650-3:2020 for?
The standard is for owners and operators of built assets of all sizes and levels of complexity from individual buildings and portfolios of buildings (government and commercial) to infrastructure networks (rail, road etc), and pieces of infrastructure (bridges, flood prevention etc).
BS EN ISO 19650-3:2020 can be applied by all types and sizes of organization involved in the operational phase.
Why should you use BS EN ISO 19650-3:2020?
This document provides a common information management process that enables an appointing party (such as an asset owner, asset operator or outsourced asset management provider) to establish their information requirements during the operational phase of an asset, and to provide the appropriate collaborative environment.
Within this environment, multiple appointed parties can produce information in an effective and efficient manner. It will encourage more effective collaboration on global projects, and allow designers and contractors working on all kinds of building works to have clearer and more efficient information management.
Ultimately BS EN ISO 19650-3:2020 will help asset owners and operators achieve their business objectives through effective and efficient production, use, and management of information throughout the operational and end-of-life phases of assets where building information modelling is used.
NOTE: The requirements in this document should be applied in a way that is proportionate and appropriate to the scale and complexity of the asset.
