What is BS EN 61439-2:2021 about?
This is the second in an eight-part series of European standards on low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies. BS EN 61439-2 deals with requirements for assemblies primarily dedicated to power switching and distribution – as opposed to general control functions.
Who is BS EN 61439-2:2021 for?
- Electrical equipment manufacturers
- Test houses
- Stockists
- Electrical design engineers
Why should you use BS EN 61439-2:2021?
This European standard sets out the general definitions and service conditions, construction requirements, technical characteristics and verification requirements for power low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies.
BS EN 61439-2 is the definitive international standard in this area.
BS EN 61439-2:2021 contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 9 on building resilient infrastructure by underpinning the safety of electrical equipment.
What’s new about BS EN 61439-2:2021?
This is a revision of BS EN 61439-2:2011 which has been fully revised to reflect advances in digital interfaces and equipment. The main changes are:
- Addition of Annexes DD, EE and FF for assemblies for use in photovoltaic networks
- Clarification of the requirements for forms of separation
- Alignment with the structure of IEC 61439-1, Ed. 3
- Addition of temperature rise verification for:
- Assemblies with natural cooling and circuits rated above 1600A by a combination of comparison with a tested design and calculation
- Assemblies with active cooling and rated currents up to 1600A
- General editorial revisions and improvements
