Lifts and service lifts - Part 6: Code of practice for the selection and installation of new lifts
Executive summary
Recommendations for the selection and installation of new passenger and passenger/goods lifts.
Abstract
This British Standard, a part of the BS 5655 series, provides recommendations for the selection and installation of new passenger and passenger/goods lifts. It also provides recommendations for issues peripheral to the selection and installation of lifts, such as building design.
This British Standard is applicable at the early stages of a project for architects, building contractors, building owners, building managers, developers, general and specialized engineering consultants, lift contractors, principal contractors, purchasers, and other interested parties.
As well as providing general guidance, specific guidance is given on building construction, traffic design, traffic control systems, electrical installation, lift installation and provision of lifts for disabled people.
