What is BS 5864:2010?
BS 5864 sets out the minimum requirements for the selection, installation and maintenance of flued, gas-fired, duct-air heaters of a rated heat input not more than 70kW. This is based on net calorific value – burning 2nd or 3rd family gases to heat one or more rooms in either domestic or commercial premises. This standard applies to warm air heaters with fans to circulate the warm air. It also relates to combined air heater/circulator installations, as well as the servicing and maintenance of heating equipment that distribute warm air by natural convection.
How does it work?
BS 5864 first shares a set of normative references and terms and definitions. The standard then takes an in-depth look at the selection of equipment and pre-installation procedures. BS 5864 also describes the installation and post-installation of warm-air heating devices in full.
Who should buy it?
- Anyone responsible for the commissioning, installation and maintenance of gas-fired air heaters
- Manufacturers of warm-air heating devices
- Suppliers of components for warm-air heating devices
- Regulatory bodies
- Inspectors
