BS 30301:2011 Information & documentation. Management systems for records. Requirements

BS 30301:2011 specifies requirements to be met by a management system for records (MSR) in order to support an organization in the achievement of its mandate, mission, strategy and goals. It addresses the development and implementation of a records policy and objectives and provides the necessary information on measuring and monitoring your organizations performance.

BS 30301:2011 can be implemented with other Management System Standards (MSS) and is especially useful in demonstrating compliance with the documentation and records requirements of other MSS.

The standard specifies the terminology for the Management systems for records (MSR) series of standards and the objectives and benefits of a MSR. It specifies requirements for a MSR where an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to create and control records from its business activities for as long as they are required.

A MSR can be established by an organization or across organizations that share business activities.

This International Standard is applicable to any organization that wishes to:

a) Establish, implement, maintain and improve a MSR to support its business

b) Assure itself of conformity with its stated records policy

c) Demonstrate conformity with this International Standard

d) Undertake a self-assessment and self-declaration

e) Seek confirmation of its self-declaration

f)  Get certification of its MSR by an external party
