What is this standard about?

This is Part 2 of a two-part British Standard on stabilizing materials for civil engineering. This part deals with how to test treated stabilization materials.  It has been completely revised.

Who is this standard for?

  • Civil engineering contractors and consultants
  • Local authority engineers
  • Port authority designers
  • The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO)
  • Airfield owner/operators
  • Environment Agency operatives
  • Dam engineers
  • Industrial developers
  • Higher education establishments

Why should you use this standard?

It describes methods of testing materials treated solely or in combination with treating agents, including cement, granulated blast-furnace slag (gbs), ground granulated blast-furnace slag (ggbs), (coal) fly ash and lime.

What’s changed since the last update?

The standard has been full updated to reflect current European standards, technical advances and on-site practice, e.g. the use of lightweight deflectometers (LWDs). The following sections have been updated:

  • Section 2
  • Section 4 (clauses 2.1.3, 2.1.4, 2.1.5, 2.1.6, 2.2.3, 4.1, 4.2, 4.4 and 4.5)

In addition, revisions have been made to reflect updated test methods in BS EN 13286.
