What is this standard about?

It deals with the safety of electric shavers, hair clippers and similar appliances intended for the household environment and for commercial purposes, where the rated voltage is not more than 250 V. Similar appliances might be animal clippers and appliances used for manicure and pedicure.

Who is this standard for?

  • Manufacturers of shavers, clippers and similar appliances
  • Specifiers and purchasers of this type of equipment
  • Test labs
  • Users of this type of equipment
  • Regulators

Why should you use this standard?

It deals with the reasonably foreseeable hazards presented by appliances and machines that are encountered by all persons, although it doesn’t take into account things like children playing with appliances or the needs of very vulnerable people.

The principle objectives of the EU’s Low Voltage Directive (2006/95/EC) and the essential health and safety requirements of the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) – which can be applied to some appliances – are covered in this standard. Compliance with this Part 2, when used together with Part 1, provides one means of conformity with the specified essential requirements of the Directives concerned.
