What is this standard about?
This is the second in a three-part series of European standards dealing with hot finished hollow section structural steel. This part specifies tolerances and more for circular, square, rectangular and elliptical sections.
Who is this standard for?
- Structural steel manufacturers and fabricators
- Structural steel stockholders and distributors
- Structural steel testing and assessment providers
- Relevant Notified Bodies under the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR)
Why should you use this standard?
It specifies tolerances, dimensions and structural properties for hot finished structural hollow sections which are circular, square, rectangular and elliptical, and manufactured in wall thicknesses up to 120 mm, in the following size ranges:
- Circular: outside diameters up to 2 500 mm
- Square: outside dimensions up to 800 mm × 800 mm
- Rectangular: outside dimensions up to 750 mm × 500 mm
- Elliptical: outside dimensions up to 500 mm × 250 mm
The standard will help users with a very wide range of applications and also with product development and commercial issues.
It was developed as part of a series on hollow sections which also includes:
- BS EN 10368, Steel structural hollow sections — General (Characteristics, evaluation of conformity and marking)
- BS EN 10210-1, Hot finished steel structural hollow sections — Part 1: Technical delivery conditions
- BS EN 10210-3, Hot finished steel structural hollow sections — Part 3: Technical delivery conditions for mechanical engineering purposes
What’s changed since the last update?
This is a technical revision of the 2006 version, which it replaces. The standard underwent an editorial revision and in addition:
a) Two options were added to paragraph 5.2
b) Mass tolerances were changed in Table 2
c) Figure 2 was updated
d) Larger sizes and wall thicknesses were added to Tables B.1, B.2 and B.3
