BS EN 61508-5:2010 Functional safety of electrical/electronic/ programmable electronic safety related systems. Examples of methods for the determination of safety integrity levels
BS EN 61508-5 provides information on:
- The underlying concepts of risk and the relationship of risk to safety integrity
- A number of methods that will enable the safety integrity levels for the E/E/PE safety-related systems, other technology safety-related systems and external risk reduction facilities to be determined.
The method selected will depend upon the application sector and the specific circumstances under consideration. Annexes B, C, D and E illustrate quantitative and qualitative approaches and have been simplified in order to illustrate the underlying principles.
The BS EN 61508 series consists of 7 parts that cover the functional safety of E/E/PE safety systems:
- BS EN 61508-1:2010 General requirements
- BS EN 61508-2:2010 Requirements for electrical/ electronic/ programmable electronic safety-related systems
- BS EN 61508-3:2010 Software requirements
- BS EN 61508-4:2010 Definitions and abbreviations
- BS EN 61508-5:2010 Examples of methods for the determination of safety integrity levels
- BS EN 61508-6:2010 Guidelines on the application of IEC 61508-2 and IEC 61508-3
