Why should you use this standard?
BS 8486 looks at all the factors that should be taken into account when examining new lifts and their components. Part 1 sets out the minimum requirements for the inspection, electrical testing and recording of relevant results to ensure maximum safety. The standard gives best-practice recommendations relating to performance testing, and to the commissioning, maintenance and installation of electrical lifts. It also provides up-to-date information on remote alarms, accessibility, anti-vandalism measures and fire safety in lifts.

BS 8486-1 has been fully revised by experts. The 2011 Amendment brings it up to date with technological developments and industry best practice.
