What is this standard about?

BS EN 1991-1-7:2006+A1:2014 gives recommendations and guidance for safeguarding buildings and other civil engineering works against identifiable and unidentifiable accidental actions.

Who is this standard for?

  • Civil engineers
  • Construction engineers
  • Site managers
  • Architects
  • Site inspectors
  • Regulatory bodies

Why should you use this standard?

It is part of the Eurocode 1 series and provides the most up-to-date guidance and strategies for dealing with accidental actions that might affect buildings and civil engineering works such as:

  • Impact forces from vehicles, rail traffic, ships and helicopters
  • Actions due to internal explosions
  • Actions due to local failure from an unspecified cause

The guidance provides comprehensive information on all actions that should normally be considered in the design of buildings and civil engineering works to avoid these accidents.

What’s changed since the last update?

  • EN 1991-1-7 has been amended to make changes to Informative Annex D, Internal explosions. This annex covers dust explosions in rooms, vessels and bunkers, natural gas explosions, together with explosions in road and rail tunnels
  • Due to the amendments, the UK no longer recommends users use Annex D. The National Annex (NA+A1:2014 to BS EN1991-1-7:2006+A1:2014) has been amended to make changes to the National choice for Annex D
  • There were also changes to tables. The values in Table NA1 have been updated so as to be consistent with Highways Agency standard BD 60/04
