What is this standard about?

This second part of this European standard establishes uniform requirements for the electromagnetic immunity of domestic equipment.

Who is this standard for?

  • Household appliance and electric tool manufacturers
  • EMC compliance and design engineers
  • Purchasing departments in the domestic appliance sector
  • Test labs
  • Large retailers of household appliances and electric tools

Why should you use this standard?

It sets out guidelines for test specifications of immunity for appliances and similar household apparatus that use electricity, as well as electric toys and tools. The rated voltage of the apparatus must not be more than 250V for single phase apparatus, to be connected to phase and neutral, and 480V for other apparatus.

Use of BS EN 55014 will help ensure that household appliances and tools don’t cause interference to radio reception.

What’s changed since the last update?

  • Inclusion of single and multiple zone induction cooking appliances and microwave ovens
  • Inclusion of hobs and ovens heated by means of RF energy
