What is this standard about?
This is one of several standards dealing with professional applications of the digital audio interface.
Originally in one part, it was split into three independently maintainable parts because the two-channel digital audio interface has been widely used in a variety of professional audio applications that reached beyond the vision of the original 2003 standard.
This part – Part 1 of Part 4 – specifies the format for coding audio used for the audio content.
Who is this standard for?
Anyone who works with professional applications of the digital audio interface.
Why should you use this standard?
It defines the format for coding audio used for the audit content. It specifies the semantics of the audio data, including the validity flag. It also specifies the sampling frequency by reference to AES5.
What’s changed since the last update?
Together with BS EN 60958-4-2:2016 and BS EN 60958-4-4:2016, this is a technical revision which supersedes BS EN 60958-4:2003+A1:2008.The following significant technical changes have been made:
- Support for a wider range of physical media
- Support for a wider range of audio sampling frequencies
- Deprecation of “minimum implementation” of channel status data
