Why should you use this standard?
It aligns with government policy to try and reduce waste disposal in construction. This industry is the largest contributor of waste by sector in the UK, generating not only construction, but demolition and excavation waste. A more efficient design can help to reduce this.
BS 8895-2 sets out the process for the integration of designing for material efficiency into the Concept Design and Developed Design stages of the RIBA Plan of Work. It gives recommendations for the processes, information exchanges and responsibilities for design teams to incorporate into projects at the Concept Design and Developed Design stages. These recommendations are accepted as a good practice by industry leaders and practitioners.
