What is BS EN 12165:2011?
BS EN 12165:2011 specifies the chemical composition, property requirements and dimensional tolerances for forging stock of copper and copper alloys. The standard also looks at sampling methods and a variety of tests that should be implemented to ensure these materials conform to the necessary requirements. Some of the test methods include hardness testing, and chemical-resistance and corrosion tests.
How does it work?
BS EN 12165:2011 outlines all the requirements for the right composition and mechanical properties of materials. The standard explains the resistance to dezincification, as well as the dimensions and various tolerances – including form tolerances. It also defines diameter, length and straightness, before looking at sampling methods and approval testing processes.
Who should buy it?
- Manufacturers of copper and copper alloys
- Suppliers of copper, copper alloys and wrought alloys
- Regulatory bodies
- Inspectors
