What is BS EN ISO 3744:2010?

BS EN ISO 3744: 2010 gives best practice recommendations for acoustic measurement. This includes determining the sound intensity of a noise source from sound pressure levels that are measured on a surface surrounding the machinery or production equipment. This relates to an environment where an acoustic free field is near one or more reflecting planes. The sound intensity or sound energy level in frequency bands or with A-weighting applied, can be calculated by using these measurements.

How does it work?

BS EN ISO 3744:2010 first defines the ideal testing conditions and test equipment, before looking at how to determine sound power and sound energy levels. It explains the information that should be recorded, and highlights scenarios with microphones on various surfaces. This standard also takes a look at the mathematical calculations of A-weighted sound power and sound energy levels.

Who should buy it?

  • Sound engineers
  • Manufacturers of production equipment
  • Suppliers of sound sources
  • Owners and managers of acoustic testing rooms
